The 5 G. D-xylose Absorption Test.
نویسندگان
چکیده
The 5 g. d-xylose absorption test has been studied in 50 normal subjects. The five-hour urinary xylose content was 1.75 +/- 0.43 g. Xylose absorption was more rapid and more complete with the 5 g. than with the 25 g. test. Comparative studies showed the results of the two tests to be significantly related, but the 5 g. test was a less sensitive indicator of malabsorption than the 25 g. test. The 25 g. test is considered the more suitable for routine use in temperate climates.

Differences in Intestinal Absorptive Capacity of Chickens for D-Xylose
Background: According to literature, there are differences among different species of animals in respect to absorption of D-xylose. OBJECTIVES: In two experiments, the differences that might exist in absorptive capacity of small intestine for D-xylose, in different types of chicken were tested. METHODS: In experiment one, 2 groups of nine adult layer type males (48 weeks) and females (58 weeks)...
متن کاملAlteration of D-xylose intestinal absorption in broilers with high dietary barley intake
Low nutritive value and suitability of barley as a feedstuff for broilers is mainly due to its non-starch polysaccharides. An experiment was carried out to evaluate if diets high in barley alter the mechanisms responsible for the absorption of nutrients across the intestinal epithelium of broilers, using D-xylose absorption test. Thirty, 14-d old male broiler chicks (Ross 308) with similar body...
متن کاملOne-hour serum xylose as an absorption test in the tropics.
The 1-hour serum xylose (surface area corrected) as an indication of xylose absorption after 5 g oral D-xylose has been compared with the 5-hour urine excretion test in a tropical population. The study confirmed that the peak serum xylose concentration occurs at 1 hour and that correction to a constant body surface are improves the discrimination between subjects with normal and impaired xylose...
متن کاملThe 15 g D-xylose absorption test: its application to the study of coeliac disease.
The absorption of xylose following an oral load of 15 g D-xylose has been studied by serial blood levels in 17 untreated adult coeliac patients, 21 treated coeliac patients, and 30 non-coeliac patients. A statistically significant difference in xylose blood levels was found between untreated coeliac and non-coeliac patients at all the times studied, but a complete separation between these two g...
